Sample of the Business Travel Requirements for an China Visa for UK Citizens

  1. Visa Eligibility

    This visa is for conferences, seminars or business discussions only. Applicants whose documentation states a different purpose, or who request a stay of longer than 30 days, must select "Z visa" from the drop down menu.   


    There are no specific guidelines issued by the High Commission regarding the issuance of business visas, it is on a case by case scenario and the High Commission's decision will be final and cannot be contested by VisaCentral. 

  2. Passport

    The applicant's actual passport. The passport must:

    • Have at least two blank visa pages
    • Be valid six months beyond entry date
    • Be issued as a full validity passport 
    • Not be damaged in any way

  3. Photograph

    You must provide a photograph. Upload your photo and we will print it to the exact specifications required for this visa. Note that a standard passport photo is 35mm by 45mm and will not be accepted by the Chinese Consulate. We strongly recommend that you submit your photo to VisaCentral electronically so that we can ensure it meets all requirements of the Chinese Consulate, including the mandatory 33mm by 48mm size.     Alternatively, you may provide one colour, passport type photograph that meets the following strict criteria: be taken within the last three months against a white background and printed on high quality photo paper; be 33mm by 48mm in size; provide the full frontal view of your head with your face centered in the middle and displaying a neutral (non-smiling) expression with ears visible. No background light or shadow over your face. You may wear neither spectacles nor headwear except for religious purposes. You may not wear any jewellery including earrings and necklaces regardless of size. You should not wear any garment identical to the photo background. Your photograph should not be affixed to your application and may not display evidence of adhesive or staples.

  4. Letter of Invitation

    A letter of invitation is required. In order to fulfil this particular requirement the applicant can choose from one of the two options detailed below:


    A letter of invitation from the company to be visited in China. A copy is acceptable. This letter must:
    • Be printed on A4 company letterhead paper
    • Include the full name and address of the inviting company
    • Include the fax and phone number of the inviting company
    • State the applicants full name, passport number, date of birth and gender exactly as it appears on their passport
    • State the relationship between the applicant and the inviter
    • State the applicants source of financial support whilst in China
    • State the date of issue which must include the year
    • Include the date(s) of entry and exit
    • Include the length of stay and number of entries required
    • Specify the place and purpose of the visit
    • Bear the official general company stamp, departmental stamps will not be accepted
    • State the inviters name as per passport in Chinese characters
    • Be signed in Chinese characters
    • Be issued within the last three months
    • Not be an email

    Important: Invitations must be correctly signed by the inviting party in China.  A detailed and simple guide can be found in our Applications Forms & Guidelines section


    Or


    A letter of invitation from the Chinese Foreign Ministry. A copy is acceptable. This letter must:
    • Be printed on A4 paper
    • Be issued by a Duly Authorised Unit
    • State the date of issue which must include the year 
    • Bear the seal and signature of the inviting unit
    • State the applicants date of birth
    • Be issued within the last three months

  5. Copy of Passport

    A clear colour photocopy of the information page(s) from the applicant's passport

  6. Visa Application Form

    One fully completed and signed application form

    • Applicants must fully complete all answers to all questions
    • Applicants who are self employed or whose occupation includes parliament, government, military, NGO, religion, media must state their full job title in 1.15  
    • Applicants who are self employed must supply a full and detailed job title in 1.15
    • Applicants must state the name of their employer in full in 1.17
    • Questions that do not apply to the applicant must be completed as "not applicable"  
    • Handwritten forms must be completed in block capitals and black ink only
    • There can be no handwritten changes or correction fluid
    • Applicants must sign the form in the original
    • Each page of the application form must be printed on separate sheets of A4 paper
    • Signature on visa form must match signature on passport  

  7. VisaCentral Order Confirmation

  8. Applicants of Chinese Origin

    Documents required if born in Mainland China:

    • First time applicants must provide their original valid Chinese passport with the name, date of birth and place of birth matching on both passports
    • Second time applicants must provide the original passport containing their previous Chinese visa.     

    Documents required if born in Hong Kong or Macau:

    • First time applicants must provide their original Certificate of "Change of Nationality" or "Renunciation of Chinese nationality"
    • Second time applicants must provide the original passport containing their previous Chinese visa.  

    Documents required if born in Taiwan:

    • First time applicants must provide their original valid Taiwanese passport with the name, date of birth and place of birth matching on both passports
    • Second time applicants must provide the original passport containing their previous Chinese visa.  

  9. Media Professionals

    Applicants whose occupation includes media related activities must include s letter of introduction from the applicant's UK employer. A colour copy is acceptable.This letter must:

    • Specify the nature of the business of the company
    • Specify the applicant's job title
    • Include the nature of the visit
    • Include a declaration from their employer stating they will not carry out any media related activities whilst in China (including filming, reporting and journalism) 

    A one month single entry visa will be issued.

  10. Travel to Tibet

    Travellers entering Tibet must complete section 3.7 of the visa application form with the following statement, "I understand that a Chinese visa does not cover Tibet Autonomous Region and I will apply for the entry permit to Tibet before travelling to Tibet Autonomous Region"

  11. Proof of Previous Visa(s)

    Applicants who have previously been issued one or more Chinese visa must:

    • Supply a clear copy of their most recently issued visa
    • Supply a clear copy of the information page(s) of the passport in which the old visa was issued
    • Supply the original cancelled passport if it contains a valid visa
    • Supply a clear copy of their marriage/deed poll certificate if the old passport was issued in a different name to the new one    
    • Supply a clear copy of their spouse's passport if applicable 


    VisaCentral will supply this requirement at a fee of £10.00 + VAT if not received with the application. This will minimise the risk of delay with the successful visa issuance


    Applicants who are no longer in possession of the passport containing previous visas must submit a personal statement. A copy is accepted. This statement must:

    • Be addressed to the Embassy
    • Explain why the passport is no longer in their possession
    • Include the exact wording as follows "I declare that the information provided above is genuine and I will fully bear the legal consequences of its content. I understand that any false, misleading or incomplete statement may result in the refusal of a visa for or denial of entry into China"
    • Include the date, signature and printed name of the applicant at the bottom of the personal statement

  12. Holders of a Valid Visa

    Applicants are only permitted to hold one valid Chinese visa at any one time. Applicants holding a valid visa must:

    • Provide the current or second passport for visa cancellation upon submission of a new visa application
    • Provide a personal statement requesting the cancellation of the current valid visa. A copy is accepted

    This personal statement must:

    • Be addressed to the Embassy
    • Include the exact wording as follows "I declare that the information provided above is genuine and I will fully bear the legal consequences of its content. I understand that any false, misleading or incomplete statement may result in the refusal of a visa for or denial of entry into China"
    • Include the reason for requesting the cancellation the current valid visa
    • Include the date, signature and printed name of the applicant at the bottom of the personal statement
    Holders of a valid two year visa who hold a passport valid for less than two years will be able to travel with the valid visa in the expired passport once their UK passport has been renewed.

  13. Dual Nationals

    Applicants holding dual nationality of Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, Syria or Turkey must:

    • State this clearly on the visa form
    • Apply on their UK passport where a UK passport is held, if not, then apply on the passport holding UK residency
    • Supply a copy of their non-UK passport and ID card
    • Apply for standard processing as express processing is not available for these dual nationals

    Where a copy of the non-UK passport and ID card are not available then a personal statement must be supplied explaining this.

  1. Passport

  3. Proof of Travel Arrangements

    Details of travel arrangements. This must be provided as:

    • A copy of the flight confirmation showing each applicant's name and the onward/return travel.
    • A copy of the hotel confirmation showing address and phone number along with each applicant's name and check in and out dates.  This confirmation must cover the whole duration of stay in China.
    • A copy of the travel itinerary showing the applicant's travel from the UK to China including all stops to all countries en route. This must be provided by the tour operator/travel company. A personal statement is only accepted when traveling from Hong Kong to China by land to a city that is easily reached by land.

    Applicants visiting friends/family must select "Private" visa as their purpose of trip for the correct information

  4. Copy of Passport

    A clear colour photocopy of the information page(s) from the applicant's passport

  5. Visa Application Form

    One fully completed and signed application form

    • Applicants must fully complete all answers to all questions
    • Applicants who are self employed or whose occupation includes parliament, government, military, NGO, religion, media must state their full job title in 1.15  
    • Applicants who are self employed must supply a full and detailed job title in 1.15
    • Applicants must state the name of their employer in full in 1.17

    Children Under the Age of 18

    One parent must complete and sign section 5 of the Visa Application Form.  

    Children under the age of 18 are requested to provide the following documents:
    • Original and copy of long birth certificate
    • Original passports of both parents plus a copy of their information page(s)
    • Original and copy of their Indefinite Leave to Remain permit where applicable
    • Old Chinese passport or People's Republic of China Exit and Entry Permit if applicable

    VisaCentral is unable to assist children who are applying for their first visa and whose parent(s) holds a Chinese passport as they must apply in person for their visa.


    Children Under the Age of 6

    Children under the age of 6 are requested to provide the following documents:
    • Original and copy of long birth certificate
    • Original passports of both parents plus a copy of their information page(s)

    VisaCentral is unable to assist children who are applying for their first visa and whose parent(s) holds a Chinese passport as they must apply in person for their visa.
